My Story

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. United In Love emerged from a incident from my life where in 2017 I was gunned down in the streets of Oakland CA. My life changed dramatically all in a blink of an eye. I had high goals of breaking into the movie industry after my modeling career. In the hospital and longing to go home I was actually fearful to leave the walls that confined me for two months. The doctors kept telling I have PTSD, my sister said the same thing, however, what did that even mean? Why was I suddenly afraid but of what? No I am not a gangsta, I was just caught up in the wrong place and definitely the wrong time. The woman that was shot on that fateful day was dead. I lost my hope, my dreams and basically my entire life style. God had plans and maybe I did need to slow down, my life was surrounded by tragedy. Out of this turmoil and with prayers from love ones especially my daughter I finally was able to get off this emotional roller-coaster. Still taking baby steps though I started learning more about this disease called post traumatic stress disorder. Something I thought only people in the military suffered from. The saddest thing about my story is I am use to hearing the gun shot throughout the day growing up in Bayview Hunters Point, I seen guns and folks shooting all the time, I just never expected to be me. This is my story and this disease became my strength.
From what I suffered and learned as a survivor inspired me to teach, encourage and to bring awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to urban communities all over the world. A desire for actions to speak even louder than words and give a face to this monster. Established in 2018, we’re an organization driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support. Contact us to learn more and get involved.
